Can You Believe We're Still Fighting This?

We all know $10 in NYC doesn’t go very far. But on Thurs, May 11, your $10 will reach over 1,581 miles. PP South Dakota needs all the help they can get to fight the recent decision by SD lawmakers to outlaw a woman’s right to choose. Show your love for PP, and let’s bridge those 1,581 miles to South Dakota with our donations and our fighting spirit, as we say: “YES! We ARE fighting for choice!!!”

We would like to thank everyone for coming out last night! It was a huge success, and everyone seemed to have a great time. Thanks again to Cafe Grumpy and Brooklyn Brewery as well as our volunteers, performers and other contributors. A huge shout out to Kylene Guse from Planned Parenthood South Dakota. It was so great to have you there. Although we don't have an exact total yet, we estimate that we will be to make at least a $1500 donation. THAT AIN'T TOO SHABBY FOLKS ! We will post an exact amount when we have one.

Thanks again everyone who came out. We really appreciated it.

MORE RADIO APPEARANCES!

Amy Clarke will be a guest tonight on Satellite Radio-Channel 106,
The Derek & Romaine Show at around 7:30.
She'll be talking about her new EP, as well as the fundraiser.

This Thursday morning around 11 a.m. we'll be making a second appearance on "Know Your Rights" with DJ Massimo and Lana Z on East Village Radio. A whole lot has happened in the 2 weeks since we were last on (a whole lot has happened in the last 12 hours, actually) so there'll be plenty to talk about!
We would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support that we've gotton following a snarky editorial written about us in the New York Sun. Especially we would like to thank:

www.gawker.com

www.salon.com

www.feministing.com

Thank you for standing up for us as we stand up for choice! We really appreciate it!

We would also like to thank Ms. Colon, who we suspect started the whole thing just to help us spread the word (and for that we salute her!)
In response to recent criticism:

We acknowledge that there are strong feelings on both sides of this issue. What we are truly advocating for is the right of a woman to control her own body and respecting women enough to make the best choice for themselves. We believe that to take away a woman's right to choose puts society on a slippery slope, and that it sets a dangerous precedent. Furthermore, we are also advocates for better and affordable birth control, safe-sex, pro-active sex education and inexpensive pre-natal care, as well as better and more affordable services for women after they have given birth, such as maternity and paternity leave, children's healthcare, a living wage and affordable daycare.

As for any personal attacks on us--You have a right to do so, but you do not know us, nor have you made any attempt to contact us to find out why we are doing this and why we are so passionate about it. We are happy to engage in productive discussion that doesn't resort to name calling and bickering. We are smart women, and we believe that the lives of women, the quality of those lives, and the equality of women is worth fighting for.

Regards,
5 Girls from Queens

ROCK 'N ROLL, KEYBOARDS & BELLYDANCING
We have a lot of great events planned for the night, appearing are:

Frankie Teardrop--a fantastic DJ who'll keep the night moving with
a mix of rock, do wop, and girl pop!

Laura--our favorite bellydancer! Come see how real bellydancing is done (hint-it doesn't involve a g-string, but it does involve a lot of fabulous, sensual movement and expression).

Amy Clarke--an evocative NYC recording artist who'll be performing "Not Your Landscape," an amazing and powerful pro-choice song she wrote in light of recent events. Follow the link to hear a sample!
