Can You Believe We're Still Fighting This?

We all know $10 in NYC doesn’t go very far. But on Thurs, May 11, your $10 will reach over 1,581 miles. PP South Dakota needs all the help they can get to fight the recent decision by SD lawmakers to outlaw a woman’s right to choose. Show your love for PP, and let’s bridge those 1,581 miles to South Dakota with our donations and our fighting spirit, as we say: “YES! We ARE fighting for choice!!!”

What now?
Here's one idea for taking action:

Send a wire hanger to:

Governor Mike Rounds
Office of the Governor
500 E. Capital Ave
Pierre SD 57501

A lot of blogs have mentioned this. We decorated and personalized a bunch here in NY, but even sending them "as is" would make a statement. A student organization (part of a group called Choice USA, coincidentally) in CA did the same, we aren't affiliated but it was pretty cool to see what people aross the country are doing. See the article under Links.

Sioux leader vows to bring Planned Parenthood to S.D. reservation

    From Salon.com:

Today, Broadsheet salutes Cecilia Fire Thunder, first female president of the Oglala Sioux tribe of South Dakota and a longtime advocate of domestic violence prevention and other true family-friendliness.

Here's her response to her state's abortion ban (which Tim Giago at Indianz.com called "a stupid law against women" created by "a state body made up mostly of white males"):

"To me, it is now a question of sovereignty," she told Giago. "I will personally establish a Planned Parenthood clinic on my own land which is within the boundaries of the Pine Ridge Reservation where the State of South Dakota has absolutely no jurisdiction."

    Three Cheers for Logic! Wahoooo!!!

    Love, Jessica
